Antiques

We use authentic traditional materials such as flock, horsehair, flax and twines to rebuild your piece from scratch.  Fabrics are lined to prevent friction between the fabric and foundation materials.  Careful hand lashing ensures longevity.  We use quality fabrics and springs to ensure your heirloom will continue to please for generations to come.  We can do deep buttoning, diamond buttoning, fluting/channelling and surface buttoning.

Rolled arm suites

We carefully pad and shape rolled arms, and cover with the correct type of fabric that will hold a shape. Smoothness and stretch are important to ensure contour flow.

Lounge suites

Fabric selection can depend on the number of different shaped pieces and the requirements of each.  We make sure the chosen fabric is suitable for chairs as well as sofas.  We match pattern repeats, stripes and fabric nap to make sure all pieces work harmoniously together.

Commercial furniture

Commercial Furniture needs commercial grade fabric for wear, longevity and easy cleaning.  The quality of foam used is also important for commercial applications - the wrong foam will lose shape quickly and cost more in the long run.

Squabs

Different types of foam are used for residential or commercial squabs.  Edge finishing is important (piped, unpiped or french seam) as is the choice of fabric for the finished product.

Re-springing

Required when a much loved piece of furniture has gone lumpy, sad and flat and needs work on the inside.  There are many different types of upholstery spring available.  We can advise on the best spring structure (i.e. coil, tension or zig zag) for your intended use.  Suspension webbing needs to be carefully selected for elasticity, longevity and end use.  Our tried and tested upholstery techniques ensure springs and webbing last.

Bedheads

Recovering a bed head can revitalise a bedroom.  Choose from our range of traditional or contemporary fabrics, long lasting padding materials and fine finishing techniques to refresh and renew the look and feel of your bedroom.

Loose covers

A good solution which retains the ability to remove and clean covers - excellent for coping with young children, pets etc.  Loose covers can be changed for the season or occasion, and can help to retain a traditional look.  We hold a range of fabric books in the workshop for you to choose from.

Finishing techniques

We offer a range of beautiful finishing choices - furnishing cords and braids, hand covered buttons, hand-nailed brass-coated furnishing nails.  We outsource furniture polishing to Deane Rutherford at the Furniture Hospital.
